President's letter

Open Letter to All White Bear Baseball Association Members

To all the players, parents, coaches and baseball enthusiasts within the White Bear Baseball Association's realm, I would like to say hello, and welcome you to the 2010 baseball season.

I will start this correspondence by introducing myself. My name is Mark Prokosch and I will be serving as the White Bear Baseball Association's (WBBA) President for the 2010-2011 seasons.  I look forward to the challenge and am excited about the possibilities. My hopes are that I, in cooperation with the other board members, can make a positive contribution in the ongoing effort to develop a quality youth baseball program, competitive teams and fundamentally sound ball players. I too, like most of the people that give their time, have a personal interest in the program's success since I have two boys active in White Bear Baseball.

Next, I would like to thank the outgoing board members for their time and effort during their tenure and wish them good luck in any future endeavors. I would also like to thank the new incoming board members for volunteering their time and effort for the future benefit of the organization (a list of current board members can be found on the home page of the WBBA web site). Last, but certainly not least, I (on behalf of the association) would like to thank all the coaches and other volunteers within the program who donate their time and effort every year, and without whom, there would be no program.

Moving on to the tasks at hand. Registration for this years program is in full swing and is 100% web based, via the WBBA web site. For anyone visiting the WBBA web site for the first time, please take some time to look it over and familiarize yourself with the layout and various sections. It is an excellent source for getting answers to questions pertaining to registration, field locations, clinics, association news, coaching, and other valuable information.

As we move forward in pursuit of our goal of developing a quality baseball program, it goes without saying that we will incur costs as a result (e.g. equipment, uniforms, field maintenance, tournament fees, umpires, batting cages and so on). As such, we will be looking at and evaluating different ways for generating additional revenue for the purpose of developing and running a successful program. As is the case with any “not for profit” entity, fund raising is an integral part of the organization's “business plan” and as a result we as an organization (WBBA) would encourage all participants (active or inactive) to support our efforts in this area.

Lastly, I would like to quote an often used sports maxim which goes as follows: “The will to win is not nearly as important as the will to prepare to win”. In other words, wanting a successful youth baseball program is okay, but taking action and doing whats required to develop a successful program is far better and more successful. GO BEARS
